In a move to enhance agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods, the Longding Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) conducted an impactful training program on 9th October 2024. The event, focused on “Timely Land Preparation for Planting Potatoes for Higher Production and Productivity for Livelihood Improvement,” took place in Nginu village, Longchan circle, drawing enthusiastic participation from local farmers.
Dr. Utpal Kumar Bhattacharyya, the KVK head and senior scientist, kicked off the program by highlighting the various farmer-centric initiatives undertaken by the KVK. He emphasized the crucial support received from the district administration and PRI members in these endeavours.
The training session featured expert insights from Chief Technical Officer A. Kirankumar Singh, who shared valuable techniques for successful potato cultivation across different seasons. This knowledge is expected to significantly boost income generation for the farmers. Dr. Amit Kumar, a subject matter specialist, contributed by providing essential information on land and water management strategies to enhance crop yield.
Adding to the wealth of knowledge, SMS (horticulture) Vikas introduced farmers to potato varieties specially suited for improving their livelihoods. The event also saw the encouraging presence of Longchan Circle Officer Khamjat Ajang, who motivated farmers to embrace scientific farming methods under the expert guidance of KVK scientists.
In a gesture of practical support, the organizers distributed vegetable seeds, including French beans, radishes, and tomato varieties from IIHR, Bengaluru, to the attending farmers. This distribution is expected to provide a tangible boost to the farmers’ cultivation efforts.
The program was a resounding success, with 35 farmers from Nginu village participating under the leadership of GPC Nyalai Wangsa. This strong turnout underscores the community’s keen interest in adopting modern agricultural practices for a more prosperous future.
This initiative by the Longding KVK helps local farmers with knowledge and resources, promising a brighter agricultural future for the region.
