At the heart of this agricultural revolution is the cultivation of ‘Kufri Chipsona’ potatoes, a specialized variety perfectly suited for chips production. Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Karna Satyarthi, approximately 500 PVTG farmers are now embarking on this journey, supported by a comprehensive system that provides complete funding for seeds, fertilizers, and farming equipment. The farmers receive expert-led technical training, guidance on modern agricultural techniques, and support from plowing through harvest completion.
From Farm to Factory
The district administration’s vision extends beyond mere cultivation to value addition. Plans are underway to establish a potato chips processing plant, which will be operated by PVTG farmers themselves. This forward-thinking approach ensures local employment generation, fair price realization for farmers, development of local entrepreneurship, and the creation of a sustainable business model.
Understanding the importance of market linkages, the administration is implementing a comprehensive support system that includes marketing assistance, brand development support, sales channel establishment, and fair price guarantee mechanisms. The project, initiated in October 2024, follows a structured timeline with harvest completion scheduled for February 2025. District Planning Officer Raman Arya emphasizes that this initiative represents a crucial step toward agricultural sector development and PVTG community empowerment.
This innovative approach to potato cultivation and processing is set to create a sustainable model of agricultural entrepreneurship. By combining traditional farming with modern processing techniques, the project aims to establish a self-sustaining ecosystem that benefits the PVTG community while promoting agricultural innovation in Jharkhand. The initiative stands as a testament to how targeted agricultural interventions, combined with processing capabilities, can transform rural economies and empower vulnerable communities. Through this comprehensive approach, Jharkhand is setting a new benchmark in agricultural development and tribal empowerment.
