New Potato Crop Makes Market Debut with 28 Packets
The Satanpur Market witnessed the arrival of the season’s first new potato crop on Sunday, with 28 packets reaching the market. The potatoes were traded at Rs. 2,622 per quintal, bringing renewed hope for increased market activity.
Market Details
- First batch arrived from Rasulpur Faizbag village farmer Sarfuddin
- Trader Deepu Katiyar purchased at Rs. 1,311 per packet (50 kg)
- The commission agent celebrated the first purchase with a traditional sweet distribution
Farmer’s Perspective
Sarfuddin, who cultivated potatoes on three bighas of land, harvested one bigha two days ago, yielding 17 packets. The remaining two bighas produced 28 packets, which were brought to the Satanpur Market.
Current Challenges
- Delayed sowing has affected the crop timing this year
- Higher temperatures are resulting in lower yields
- Some farmers have replowed their standing crop to restart potato cultivation
According to Commission Agent Arvind Rajput and Traders Association President Sudhir Verma Rinku, the market expects increased potato arrivals in December. The current low supply is attributed to warmer weather conditions, but the market inauguration has officially commenced.
