1.92 Quintals of Kufri Tejas Potato Seeds were procured at Rs 920 Per Kilogram from CPRI.
Kufri Tejas, a remarkable potato variety developed by the Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI), is bound to make significant changes in potato landscape of not only Bulandshahar but many regions of India. What sets this variety apart is its extraordinary ability to withstand high temperatures, thriving even when the mercury climbs as high as 35 degrees Celsius. This inherent characteristic makes Kufri Tejas exceptionally well-suited for cultivation within Bulandshahar’s local climate, particularly benefiting farmers during the warmer months when other varieties typically struggle. Beyond its impressive heat tolerance, Kufri Tejas offers other desirable qualities: it’s highly nutritious, notably completely sugar-free, and boasts a distinctive white skin with yellowish flesh. From a post-harvest perspective, this potato can be safely stored in cold storage facilities without any issues, adding to its appeal for farmers.
The successful introduction of the Kufri Tejas variety into Bulandshahar is largely attributed to the determined efforts of Rahul Chaudhary, a dedicated potato seed farmer from Sukhpalpur village in Sikandrabad tehsil. Rahul’s journey is one of remarkable resilience and overcoming adversity, having risen from “completely zero level.” After the loss of his father in 1994 and a period of service in the Indian Army until 2008, Rahul embarked on a path that would transform potato farming in his region. Despite his own modest landholding, his ambition to scale up operations led him to lease an additional 300 bighas of land, a strategic move demonstrating his foresight and commitment to potato farming.

Rahul Chaudhary’s connection with potato research institutions, specifically the CPRI in Modipuram, traces back several years. He first visited CPRI Modipuram in 2014 with a friend who was already intending to acquire potato seeds. During this initial visit, Rahul made it a point to gain extensive knowledge on potato seeds and farming practices. His unwavering commitment was evident when he made his first seed purchase, costing 49,000 rupees, a sum he bravely raised by selling his buffalo. This act truly demonstrated his belief in the potential of quality potato seeds.
In bringing the Kufri Tejas variety to Bulandshahar, Rahul Chaudhary undertook the significant step of acquiring 1.92 quintals of Kufri Tejas seed directly from the CPRI in Modipuram. The seeds of Kufri Tejas variety has been procured at Rs 920 per Kg which itself is a big amount for per Kg of seeds and exemplifies the commitment of Rahul towards qualtiy and innovative potato variety adoption This substantial acquisition was made possible with the invaluable support and guidance of Dr. V.K. Gupta, a Principal Scientist at the Modipuram Potato Institute. Dr. Gupta’s collaboration and his confirmation of the variety’s hardiness – its ability to tolerate temperatures up to 35 degrees Celsius – provided the crucial scientific backing for Kufri Tejas and its suitability for warmer climates.
Building on the success of Kufri Tejas, Rahul Chaudhary is now poised to scale up his potato seed operations even further with his potato seed company, Kavya Potato Seeds. He currently holds a strong stock of Kavya Potato Seeds, recognizing their potential to further revolutionize potato farming in the region and expand his role as a leading supplier of high-quality, resilient varieties. Rahul is also assisted by his wife in tha potato seeds farming operations

Rahul Chaudhary’s dedication and the promising future of Kavya Potato Seeds recently received significant recognition. Kavya Potato Seeds was felicitated at the International Potato Buyer Seller Meet 2025, a prestigious event organized at Raj Bhavan Lucknow in February 2025. This honor not only validates Rahul’s innovative efforts but also highlights the growing importance of Kavya Potato Seeds in the agricultural landscape. Rahul Chaudhary’s journey is a powerful testament to how individual initiative, combined with scientific collaboration and strategic vision, can truly transform farming practices and uplift communities.
