The Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR), Central Potato Research Institute (CRPI) Research Station in Upper Shillong conducted a significant training program focused on organic potato production technology. The event, organized on December 6 in collaboration with Krishi Vikas Kendra, Ri-Bhoi ICAR Umiam and ATMA, Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi, drew participation from 56 farmers representing five villages in the Ri-Bhoi district.

During the comprehensive training session, farmers received valuable insights into various aspects of organic potato cultivation. The training covered crucial topics including variety selection, crop diversification, integrated disease management, and intensification techniques. Special emphasis was placed on table and processing varieties, highlighting their potential for employment generation and increasing farmers’ income.
The program featured an interactive session where scientists addressed farmers’ queries, providing clarity on various aspects of potato cultivation. This direct interaction between experts and farmers proved beneficial in resolving practical doubts and concerns.
The training concluded with a significant distribution of agricultural resources to the participants. This included three tons of quality potato seeds comprising varieties such as Kufri Chipsona, Sinduri, and Chandramukhi. Additionally, farmers received 500 kg of vermicompost and 25 litres of biofertilizers, equipping them with essential materials to implement their newly acquired knowledge in organic potato farming.
