Potatoes.News, the international potato-industry newsroom founded by Viktor Kovalev, launched Potato Market Prices on 26 September 2026: one page with the latest confirmed potato prices by country across farm-gate, wholesale, retail, processing, seed, export and import. On 27 September it listed 34 entries from 16 markets. India’s line reads ₹5–7 a kilo for good-quality potatoes, against a board median of US$328 a tonne, about ₹31 a kilo, drawn only from farm-gate and wholesale figures that three or more sources confirm.

Retail and processing lines are not comparable with farm-gate and wholesale ones, so the chart keeps only the ten farm-gate, wholesale and market-price lines from the snapshot. On that like-for-like strip, only Pakistan’s cold-store ware potatoes sit below India. The dashed line is the board’s own median of US$328 a tonne.

Read India’s line with care. It rests on one source, so it carries no ✓ and stays out of the board’s median. A figure earns its tick when three or more independent sources confirm it. The charts, the median and the banner use ticked figures only.
Prices from market participants are published only as a range drawn from at least three independent sources, with no people or companies named.
Data from paid bulletins is never published. Every line links to the Potatoes.News article that carries its sources.
French fries, crisps, flakes and starch are product prices, not potato prices. The board lists them in their own table and keeps them out of the raw-potato charts, the median and the banner. On 27 September that table had two lines.

Exporters: check the markets you sell into, and the neighbours you sell against. A cold-store ware price of US$55 a tonne in Pakistan works out to about ₹5.27 a kilo (55 × 95.82 ÷ 1,000), at the bottom of Punjab’s range. On 27 September 2026 the board showed ₹5–7 per kg for good-quality potatoes in Punjab, dated 24 September, from one source. That is about US$52–73 a tonne at ₹95.82 to the dollar; the board’s own benchmark is US$62.57, close to the midpoint.
A ✓ means three or more independent sources confirm the figure. Only ticked figures are used in the board’s charts, its median and its banner. Prices from market participants appear only as ranges drawn from at least three sources, and data from paid bulletins is never published.

Step-by-step process
India's exported potato fetched ₹18.86 ($0.216) a kilo in 2025. Canada's fetched ₹64.08 ($0.735), the Netherlands' ₹46.30 ($0.531); eleven big exporters averaged ₹34 ($0.39). Only Pakistan sold cheaper. Nepal took 55% of the tonnes at ₹11.92 ($0.137) — and that is half the story.
Bigger is not cheaper. Lay's ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20 packs cost ₹38–42 per 100 g; the ₹48 pack costs ₹58–60. Bingo's ₹50 packs cost 20–40% more per gram than its ₹20 packs. Every pack, from the printed MRPs, and the two pouches that break the rule.
